Finally, Michigan football has landed a cornerback from the transfer portal as former FCS All-American Aamir Hall has committed to the Wolverines according to his post on X.

After visiting Michigan football this week, reports came out on Thursday that Hall was “expected” to commit to the Wolverines. However, an actual commitment is always better and Hall announced his pledge, writing, “Ann Arbor is home.”

Hall is 6-foot-1, 200 pounds. He had over 50 tackles last season to go along with five interceptions and 15 pass breakups as Albany earned its way into the FCS semifinals. He earned All-American honors and will have the chance to earn a starting job for the defending national champs next season.

What Aamir Hall commitment means for Michigan’s secondary

It means that cornerback depth isn’t such a glaring weakness. After Will Johnson, there just wasn’t a lot of proven depth. Ja’Den McBurrows has played the most, but he’s also being talked about as a nickel.

So that could leave Will Johnson, who might be the best corner in college football, and Jyaire Hill, a second-year player who saw action in seven games as a defensive back last season, as the top options.  Other members of the 2022 class — Myles Pollard and Kody Jones — haven’t played a huge role since joining the team.

I have confidence in all those guys. But some will sink and some will swim. This ensures that Hill or whoever starts, will have earned the job properly. It won’t be handed to anyone.

Including McBurrows, it gives you four cornerbacks you can feel good about. Another is probably still needed  from the transfer portal and could be added. But even if not, Hall was a quality find at one of the biggest positions of need for Michigan heading into 2024.
