Joe Espada’s message that fueled Astros turnaround

The Houston Astros are currently on a five-game winning streak after starting the season off to a slow start. It’s been a nice turnaround for this franchise lately. As it turns out, manager Joe Espada reveals what he told the team that fueled the recent spark.

Espada reveals he gave his team a message in Mexico City and it seems to have ignited a turnaround for Houston, according to beat reporter, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. The Astros manager is delighted with how his team has played since then.

“We went into Mexico City after our meeting in Chicago and said, ‘It’s time to go. We’re better than this in all aspects of the game.’ The guys have responded well to that. It’s a long season and we’ve got a ways to go. We’ve got to continue to build on the way we’re playing right now, but I’m very pleased.”

The team has seemingly been playing better. Alex Bregman has recently come alive after having a terribly cold start to the season. The entire team has looked phenomenal recently and hopefully that streak continues. But it’ll be nice to see the Astros continue playing on against teams that aren’t the Oakland Athletics or Detroit Tigers.

Additionally, considering the Astros are typically viewed as a play0ff-caliber team. With plenty of games remaining in the regular season we could see Houston surge themselves back into playoff position. We’ve already seen them climb the ranks back into third place of the American League West. So, it’s not that crazy of an idea for Houston to continue rising being just five games behind the first placed Seattle Mariners.

The Astros are still in the mix after going on a five-game winning streak. They have a talented roster from top to bottom as well. It’s going to be interesting to see if they can remain hot with summer right around the corner. This is a great time of the season to finally figure it out as Houston could be competing for first place in the AL West sooner, rather than later.

There is still plenty of time remaining in the regular season and Joe Espada is going to do whatever he can to keep his guys humming. With that said, we should expect the Astros to continue playing at a high level as this franchise last won a World Series in 2022 with relatively the same roster.

The Astros kick off their next series against the Milwaukee Brewers. The first game of that series begins on Friday, May 17. Look for Houston to remain hot at the plate after torching the Athletics in their last game. Especially considering the team is finally getting the ball rolling.
